The Walled Garden Cookery School (was) the brainchild of cookery expert Kate Benson

A quick nose around the kitchen in her family home will tell you all you need to know. Shelves overflowing with cookery books and cupboards filled with ingredients, plates, pans, and all the rest. This is somebody who takes her food seriously, in the planning, in the preparation and in the presentation.

Kate, trained at Leith’s, is a professional cook and teacher with 25 years experience. She has written a cookery book, edited a food glossy in Hong Kong, run a catering company and presented a cookery show on radio.

Most recently Kate has been head teacher at the renowned Bordeaux Quay cookery school in Bristol, originating and teaching their beginner, intermediate and advanced level cookery courses.

At Kate’s heart is a lifetime of home cooking, honed through years of bringing up and feeding her own family of six children.

How it all began

Kate ran a trial cookery school at Elmore Court in Gloucestershire as part of the Channel 4 documentary Country House Rescue. Elmore is now a world class wedding venue!
